On Sunday 17th October we bid farewell to Reverend Peter Organ, Vicar of St Michael’s Church, home to our war memorial. Peter has been a Governor of the Trust throughout his 10 year term at St Michael’s and also during an interregnum period some years before.
The role of the Governors includes the consideration of grant applications made to the Trust. He has also been a member of the Remembrance Festival Planning Committee which meets throughout the year to agree the programme and discuss other logistical issues where his rapid command of phone technology always won the ‘first one to find a tune’ when pitted against Michael Macey’s piano playing or others in the committee trying to hum a tune we were trying to share!
Nigel Betts presented Peter with a biretta from the Trust, which he was relieved to discover is actually a hat (which Peter is wearing in the photos) and not an Italian firearm – a beretta!
We thank Peter for his contribution over the years which included presiding over the Festival of Remembrance. We will miss his droll sense of humour and his relaxed ‘can-do’ attitude and we wish him all the best in his new post of Team Rector of the Catford and Downham Team Ministry with particular oversight of St John the Baptist, Catford. We looking forward to working with Reverend Carol Bates, Curate of St Michael’s, who will be joining the Governors over the interregnum.
