On 10th November, at St Michael’s Church East Wickham, the Trust held its 18th Festival of Remembrance. The Mayor of Bexley, Councillor Sharon Massey, laid a wreath in memory of the men from the district who laid down their lives in the First World War, and it was an opportunity to remember all those who have died in conflict. Around 550 people attended the Festival, including MPs David Evennett and James Brokenshire, Major James Cleverly, GLA’s Assembly Member for Bexley and the Right Reverend Dr Michael Ipgrave, Bishop of Woolwich. Music was provided by the Belvedere Concert Band, The Kentones and the East Wickham Singers. Local actor, Maurice Tripp performed the readings. Family members from four of the men who died also attended, including Mrs Linda Finch, sister-in-law of Rifleman Stanley Finch, a Welling lad who died in the Battle of Arras, aged just 21 and has never been commemorated on any war memorial in his home country.
