The Church was full on Sunday 8th November for our 20th annual Festival of Remembrance. The service started with a procession of the Union Flag by senior cadets of 358 (Welling) ATC and a ceremonial folding of the flag.
The Belvedere Concert Band played pieces that ranged from Nimrod to the theme from Dad’s Army and there were powerful and moving performances by soloists Gari Glaysher, Sarah Embry and Barry Sullivan. We have been very fortunate that for some years the talented Bill Cooper, professional musician and Barmy Army trumpeter for the England cricket team has played at the Festival, which has included the Last Post and Reveille. Other musicians included the East Wickham Singers and WI Choir. Gerald Bishop read a poignant first hand account of the Battle of Loos, which took place one hundred years ago in 1915.
After the Festival the WI provided tea and homemade cake for over 500 guests and performers.
