It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our longest serving Trustee, John Symonds, on 10th June 2015,John became a Trustee in the late 1980s when local solicitors, TG Baynes, took over the management of the charity. He remained a Trustee during the transition period of the 1990s when the Trust was revived and became a grant making charity.
John attended the John Roan School for Boys before serving his National Service. He trained as a solicitor and became a partner at T.G. Baynes, managing their Welling office. He had been a keen sailor until recent years and remained active throughout his life.
John brought a wealth of wisdom and experience to his role as a Trustee and was supportive of the local community and the impact that the Trust is able to make. He was one-time Chairman of the Foster’s Education Foundation and was also involved in local charity, the John Payne Charity.John will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by his friends at the East Wickham and Welling War Memorial Trust. Our condolences go to his widow, Alwyn, and his children and grandchildren
