Woodland’s Farm is one of the Trust’s favourite community projects as it reaches out to the young and old alike and we were therefore very pleased to be able to award a £15,000 grant towards a new educational building which will benefit the whole community. It has been very appropriate in this centenary year to be able to make this award as many of the young men who gave their lives in the First World War had worked on local farms,quite possibly at Woodlands.
Woodlands Farm is a working city farm, worked mainly by volunteers and open to the community. They run a varied programme of educational and social events throughout the year and provide a unique and valuable resource to Welling and the surrounding area. The Farm is spread over 89 acres and is a pocket of Welling’s forgotten rural past.
The Farm will be able to expand its educational programme and local community activities throughout the whole year. The facility will be available for use by schools, playgroups and community groups and a new educational programme has been planned for local individuals and groups wanting to learn about a variety of topics including bee keeping and horticulture. Tony Baker, Trustee and Project Manager for the new building, noted his thanks to all benefactors, including the East Wickham and Welling War Memorial Trust, without whose generous donations the project would not have been possible.
