On the evening of Saturday 12th April 2014 it was a great privilege for many of our research volunteers to be present at the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate in Ypres, Belgium.
One of our researchers, Tim Dowling, is an Officer Cadet with the OTC at his University and he donned his uniform to lay the Trust’s wreath as part of the ceremony. He was accompanied by Gill Buckenham and Christine Fern. Christine said “It has for a long time been a wish of mine to visit the battlefields and cemeteries of WW1, so it was a very proud moment for me to escort Tim for the laying of the EWT wreath at the Menin Gate”.
The message on the wreath read – “We remember today those Soldiers from East Wickham & Welling who were killed in action in the Great War and have no known graves. Those from WELLING who are remembered on this MENIN GATE memorial are:
ALBERT BARLOW : WALTER COOK : THOMAS DACEY : DAVID HOROBIN : WILLIAM NEWMAN : WILLIAM SCUDDER : STANLEY SKINNER : RAYMOND STORER

I missed the recent visit by members to the War graves and would like to know if there will be any future visits.

Hello Michael. This was a trip for our Research Volunteers involved in our WElling WILL REMEMBER THEM project.
