Colin Hopkins 1942-2014

It is with great sadness that we announce that Colin Hopkins, a Governor of the Trust for the last 12 years, died on Tuesday 18th March 2014.

Colin was a former District Commissioner of East Wickham & Welling Scouts, an active supporter of the 2nd East Wickham Scout Group and Treasurer to St Mary’s Church, Shoulder of Mutton Green. In recent years he took up the role of Treasurer to the Scout District.

Colin was a banker by profession and had worked abroad for protracted periods of his career.

He joined the Trust Governors in 2001 and was an ideal candidate for this role as he had a wonderful network in both Scouting and with St Mary’’s Church and the Groups who use their Church Hall.

He was an active member of our grants committee, often visiting groups to advise them on how to keep good accounts.

He also played a big part in our Remembrance Committee and auditioned people and coached them for the reading of the names from the war memorial on Remembrance Sunday each year. Although everything always seems effortless, Colin put in much preparation behind the scenes to get the readers performing well on the day.

We last saw Colin when he came to our Remembrance debrief lunch on 14th January. Although he was very ill he was determined to be with us for what proved to be his last meeting with the Trust.

He will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by his friends at the War Memorial Trust. Our condolences go to his widow Linda and his children and grandchildren
